Dave Matthews Withdraws From FireAid And MusiCares Grateful Dead Tribute Due To Family Emergency

Dave Matthews has dropped out of his scheduled appearances at FireAid and the MusiCares Grateful Dead Tribute events this week due to a family emergency. Matthews made the last-minute announcement on the band’s official Instagram account on Wednesday (January 29), saying he would be unable to perform at either upcoming event “due to a critical illness in the family.” Despite Matthews’ absence, there will still be plenty of star power at each L.A. event. Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Lady Gaga, No Doubt, Katy Perry, Jelly Roll, Sting, and Stevie Nicks are among the performers taking part in FireAid on Thursday (January 30). While John Mayer, Dead & Company, Mick Fleetwood, Norah Jones, Maren Morris, Noah Kahan, and Vampire Weekend will honor Grateful Dead at the MusiCares’ Person of the Year gala on Friday (January 30), with original members Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir being celebrated alongside posthumous tributes to Jerry Garcia and Phil Lesh.
